The Tandem...

is rolling.

New to us, probably about ten years old. Had to get used to Barcons again, used to have em on the old crosser. Suntour XC shifts ok, you just have to be patient and not pressure the drivetrain, the way we all had to shift before the fancy stuff.

This thing is gonna be fun, I have a new Terry Butterfly coming for Miz C. that hopefully will take the edge off things. I need to find a odd size suspension seatpost in 26.8 also. It has a rack and a light already, perfect for a cold beverage or some sandals or a couple of jackets, depending on the season.

The beast is classic Burley steel, weighs as much as a Sherman tank and drives like one too. The drag brake is a cool invention, keeping comments to a minimum from the aft compartment on long descents.

Now for some corny matching outfits.....

may i offer a word of advice?

the key to long-term happy tandem riding, in my opinion, is that the person in back ... is driving.

even though their not in front, they are driving.

you keep that navigating your senses and you'll have one happy stoker for as long as you like.

she

is

driving.

trust me.

lemme look through my box(es) of old spare parts. I might just have the seatpost you are looking for. It is very heavy, which will match the bike perfectly, sounds like...

I have a suspension post that will work, and it's a nice one, Slick Willy from Tamer.
Unfortunately I don't have a suspension post for my rig. I need a 29.8 and I can shim it, or a 31.8 actual size.

Oh, no back seat drivers, it's about trust (he says while picking at the last of the scabs on his chin).

XB- no offroad, just the odd unseen hole.
But- as Olaf sez-

Keep the stoker happy.

This is my primary mission. Stop lots. Talk lots. Avoid bumps and holes. Find flattish rides with food stops. Talk more.Do not exceed the land speed record for at least a few months.

Pab and Nome- tanks very much. It is a wierd size post. Yes, heavy fits this thing to a T.

stoker will be happy if you communicate well

ask if you are going too fast
tell her when you are doing something she might not anticipate (dip in the road ahead, shifting when you are standing, etc)

there's lots she doesn't always see that you can see ahead of you

lots of fun!!

My stoker likes chasing singles down then blowing people off the road by passing them so fast that they can't get on our wheel.

She is sick, just plain sick, and she is going to kill me.
Last ride I had to ask my stoker to soft pedal.

sounds like groove has got the system down just fine

so who is the stoker on your sunday ride with mike? i say you two take out the tandom. tee hee

Ron Castia said...

Yeah, last ride I was trying to go easy and the speed kept getting faster and faster, pretty soon I had to put it in the big ring to keep the cadence managable.

No more mid-ride stops at Peet's for her. From now on she is getting tea...decaf!

Alicat- Me and Miguel will be riding some nice hills Sunday- feel free to ditch that racing bizness.
1st ride with Nome and Groove tonight, big fun for all. Miz C realized we were going 30 at one point and had a moment, but all is well now.

Always remembering who is driving= hard.

Especially when that person is pushing the pace just before the realization.....

Seatpost issue= can't fit a standard suspension one in there with her little legs. Gonna see how Nome's new gadget works.

That was definitely a 10 on the enjoyable scale.
I have to hand it to my stoker, she is tuning in to my body language really fast and we seem to be on the same page.
Maybe it's that we both listened to Metallica and like the song "Seek and Destroy".
Savage!

That little mexican resturaunt is a jewel in the rough. It goes on the list.
